Purpose
Unsure what to say at a networking event or careers expo? You can leverage AI to enhance your job seeking and networking experience in multiple ways. For instance, using your own professional experiences, you can prompt AI to suggest companies attending the careers expo that is best suited to your skillsets and interests, thus providing custom job recommendations that helps to save time. Additionally, you can use AI to generate sets of guiding questions to help you better understand the company and its recruiting programs, and this can also apply to individual person (for example, guest speakers in networking event).
Prompt
Note: The following prompts were tested with Microsoft Copilot for Web, but they are suitable for most language based generative AI tools.
What questions should I ask at a career expo for <job title> in <specific industry>?
As a <insert degree> graduate looking for <job title> at <company name>, what questions could you ask to the employers?
You are a <insert degree> graduate looking for <job title> at a careers expo. Using the list provided in the next prompt, which companies should I prioritise during the event?
Advice
Copy and paste the companies that'll be attending the careers expo into the AI and the type of jobs and experiences that you have. This will help you align your skillsets with the companies, and you could prompt follow-up questions on what to elaborate further.
Explanation
Since it has been trained on a diverse range of text, including job interview and careers expo tips, generative AI tools can generate questions based on specific job roles or industries. This can help you anticipate the types of questions that might be asked for a specific job role or in a particular sector.
Ideally you can use generative AI tool that has access to the internet (for example Copilot or ChatGPT Plus) to keep your search more up-to-date and ensures that it extracts relevant information from the corporate website.
Examples
The conversation below demonstrates the use of text-based generative AI and how you would prompt it to generate possible questions to ask specific employers.
Remember to view the end output and ensure it makes sense in the context of your job role and industry. Further prompting may be required to receive a more specific and tailored result.
