Instructions

For CC tutorials, students will present via the lecture room's computer.
Each student is to speak for up to 2 minutes and answer at least one question asked by other students or you. Suggest you prepare one question per student when listening to the group presentation in case there are no questions from other students.
Grade in tutorial class time using SRES. Each group presentation is to be assessed on its presentation skills and ability to answer the question.
After the group presents, provide general feedback about their presentation skills ONLY. DO NOT provide any feedback about the content or ability to answer the question. This feedback will be provided by a personalised SRES email to each student in the group at the start of the following week.

Presentation skills

As per the marking rubric, very good presentation skills are when the group presents in a very professional manner, presentation is very engaging and captures audience attention. Examples, group explains answer in a way that the audience will understand, group members do not read entirely from notes (although can use cue cards), clear and understandable voice, informative slides with few (if any) errors, and good presentation energy and eye contact.

Some suggested points:

Tricia talks about how the Wesfarmers Group has many divisions with businesses. From a practical side, it is not possible to produce a lot of separate entities financial statements, “not get lost in the separate legal entities”. By Wesfarmers producing consolidated financial statements, they provide users with a combined balance sheet, so it shows users what the group is doing as a collective, so users can make informed decision.

Presentations may go back to the objective of the Conceptual Framework, that is giving shareholders and lenders information to assist their decision making to support arguments to justify what extent opinions. Some presentations may include ratios (using information from the Wesfarmers 2024 FS) to demonstrate usefulness. Presentations could draw on AASB 10 and its definition of control as this is the basis for including many varied and different divisions (AKA subsidiaries) being included in the Wesfarmers 2024 consolidated financial statements.
